5. Retro Checkerboard Crossbody

What This Idea Means

A high-contrast graphic bag made using two alternating yarn colors in a grid pattern. It adds a vibrant, vintage-inspired focal point to simple outfits.

Needs to Make

  • $200\text{g}$ Cream Tube Yarn
  • $200\text{g}$ Black or Sage Green Tube Yarn
  • Metal D-rings & Crossbody Strap

How to Make It

  1. Chain 12 stitches, alternating 3 loops of Color A and 3 loops of Color B.
  2. Carry the inactive yarn color along the back side of the work.
  3. Switch color positions every 3 rows to form clean squares.
  4. Fold, seam the edges, and attach D-rings into the side weaves for the strap.

Tips and Variations

  • Tip: Twist threads neatly on the inside when changing colors to prevent gaping.
  • Variation: Try pastel yellow and soft pink for a sweeter vibe.
