  • Materials Needed: 1/16-inch brass rods, thin hardwood offcuts (walnut, cherry, maple), coping saw, jewelry needle files, round-nose pliers, fine sandpaper, clear metal lacquer, lightweight nylon monofilament or brass swivel connectors.
  • How to Make It:
    1. Cut organic, modern abstract shapes (crescents, circles, leaves) out of thin hardwood scraps using a coping saw. Sand all edges velvety smooth up to 600 grit.
    2. Cut brass rods into varying lengths and bend small balance loops into both ends using round-nose jewelry pliers.
    3. Attach wooden counterweights to the ends of the brass arms.
    4. Find the precise fulcrum balance point of each rod by suspending it with a needle, then bend a central attachment loop at that exact balance spot.
    5. Assemble the mobile from the bottom tier upward, linking rods together until the entire kinetic sculpture balances and moves effortlessly.
