18. Minimalist Brass & Linen Table Lamp
A DIY accent lamp featuring a turned hardwood base, brushed brass stem, and textured natural linen drum shade adds warm, dimmable mood lighting to any room.
- What This Idea Means: Bringing warm, handcrafted lighting into a home helps build an inviting haven of peace and shared rest away from the outside world.
- Materials Needed: Solid hardwood turning block (ash or oak), ⅜-inch threaded brass pipe and fittings, UL-listed push-through brass lamp socket and cord set, inline dimmer switch, drum linen lampshade, vintage-style dimmable LED warm filament bulb, drill press with Forstner bits.
- How to Make It:
- Cut and shape the solid hardwood base into a clean cylinder or soft rounded dome. Drill a central vertical hole through the wood to accommodate the threaded brass rod.
- Drill a discreet side channel in the base for the lamp cord exit.
- Assemble the brass rod through the wood base, securing the hardware with lock washers and nuts.
- Thread the lamp cord up through the central brass rod, tie an Underwriter’s knot for strain relief, and wire the conductors to the brass screw terminals inside the socket.
- Fit the linen lampshade onto the brass socket saddle and insert the warm LED filament bulb.
- Tips & Variations: Install an inline rotary dimmer switch along the cloth-covered power cord so the couple can easily adjust the lighting ambiance.
