5. Arch-Top Standing Floor Mirror Frame

Arches add architectural grace to boxy rooms. Encasing a simple rectangular or custom arch mirror in a wide-plank wood frame creates a focal statement piece that visually doubles natural light.

  • Materials: 3/4-inch marine plywood backing sheet, 1×3-inch solid pine or poplar boards, 60×20-inch full-length mirror glass, construction mirror adhesive, stain or paint of choice.
  • Tools: Jigsaw, router with rabbet bit, clamps, orbital sander, pocket hole jig.
  • How to Make It:
    1. Trace an arch silhouette onto your plywood backing and carefully cut the profile using a jigsaw.
    2. Construct the outer timber frame by cutting the side vertical pieces and segmenting the top curve using multi-piece mitered segments or layered bendable plywood.
    3. Use a router to cut a 3/8-inch deep recess (rabbet) along the rear inner edge of the wood frame for the mirror glass to nest into.
    4. Sand, stain, and seal the wood structure.
    5. Lay mirror adhesive along the back, mount the mirror pane firmly into the frame, and screw the back plywood sheet into place.
