18. The Globe Pendant Light

18

Old educational globes are wonderful design elements, but they can take up a lot of desk space. By repurposing a vintage globe into a hanging pendant light, you can illuminate your space while showcasing a beautiful map of the world. This project is perfect for kids’ bedrooms, home libraries, or travel-themed home offices.

To create this light, carefully cut the globe in half along the equator line, choosing which hemisphere you want to use for your lamp. Drill a hole through the polar axis at the top of the hemisphere to accommodate a basic pendant light kit. Paint the inside of the globe with a metallic gold or bright white spray paint to help reflect the light downward, and screw in a warm LED bulb. When turned on, the light casts a beautiful downward glow, while the colorful continents on the outside of the globe add a warm, adventurous spirit to the room.
