4. The Bicycle Wheel Pot Rack

Kitchen storage is often at a premium, and finding a stylish way to store bulky pots and pans can be a challenge. An old metal bicycle wheel offers the perfect circular framework for a hanging overhead pot rack. This project is ideal for industrial, eclectic, or modern kitchen designs, utilizing the wheel’s spokes and rim to suspend heavy cookware within arm’s reach of your stove, freeing up valuable cabinet space.
To construct this unique rack, thoroughly clean a vintage bicycle wheel, removing the tire and inner tube while leaving the metal rim and spokes intact. Use sturdy S-hooks looped over the rim or through the spoke holes to hang your pots, pans, and cooking utensils. Suspend the wheel from your ceiling using three or four lengths of decorative metal chain attached to heavy-duty ceiling hooks anchored into joists. The wheel can even be painted with a metallic spray paint—such as matte black, copper, or brass—to match your kitchen hardware, turning functional utility into a sculptural masterpiece.
