18. Modern Sunken Living Room Lounge
What This Idea Means
A sunken living room (or conversation pit) drops the seating area lower than the surrounding floor level, creating an intimate, architecturally distinct space for modern open-concept builds.
How to Make It
- Excavate a 5×5 area in your floor, digging down two blocks deep.
- Line the floor and walls of the excavated pit with Polished Diorite, Quartz, or Light Wood Planks.
- Place Wool blocks or Smooth Stairs along three inside walls of the pit to create a continuous u-shaped sunken wrap-around couch.
- Place a 2×2 low table in the center using Glass Blocks over Glowstone, topped with Carpets.
- Add Slabs or Steps leading into the open fourth side of the pit for smooth foot traffic access.
Tips and Variations
- Integrated Fireplace: Place a small tabletop fire feature (a candle cluster or single campfire behind glass) in the central table space.
- Contrast Fabrics: Mix dark carpet floor finishes with light stair couches to make the seating section stand out visually.
Needed Materials
- Floor and Wall blocks (Quartz / Polished Stone)
- 10-12x Stairs (White or Colored)
- 4x Glass or Glowstone Blocks
- Carpets for table and cushion accents
