8. Fireplace Mantle with Built-in Hearth

What This Idea Means

A grand hearth serves as the traditional heart of a home, providing natural warmth, dynamic light, and a cozy focal center for living rooms.

How to Make It

  1. Recess a 2×1 opening into a stone wall and place Netherrack or Campfires at the base.
  2. Light the Netherrack with Flint and Steel, then place Iron Bars or Glass Panes in front to act as a fire screen.
  3. Surround the opening with Brick or Cobblestone Stairs and Slabs to form a heavy chimney base.
  4. Build a protruding mantle over the fire using Dark Oak Wood Slabs.
  5. Top the mantle shelf with decorative items: a Clock in the center, flanked by Flower Pots and Candles.

Tips and Variations

  • Smoke Effect: Place Hay Bales directly under Campfires inside the chimney to make thick smoke rise high up through your chimney flue outside.
  • Soul Fire Variant: Use Soul Soil and Soul Campfires for a magical, cool-blue flames hearth suitable for nether-themed or modern builds.
