15. Sherpa & Faux Sheepskin Cozy Storage Pod

What This Idea Means

Ultra-soft and inviting, the Sherpa & Faux Sheepskin Storage Pod features a plush fleece or faux sheepskin exterior paired with a structured inner lining. Its tactile appearance makes it perfect for cozy living rooms, hygge interiors, or nursery plush toy storage.

What You Need

  • 1/2 yard high-pile faux sherpa/sheepskin fabric
  • 1/2 yard heavy canvas lining (provides required internal structure)
  • 1/2 yard extra-firm stabilizer
  • Ballpoint sewing machine needle and heavy-duty thread
  • Scissors and vacuum (for fluff management during cutting)

How to Make It

  1. Cut sherpa exterior into a wide cylinder strip and circular base. Cut identical canvas lining and stabilizer pieces.
  2. Fuse extra-firm stabilizer to back of heavy canvas lining rather than sherpa fabric to protect plush texture.
  3. Stitch sherpa cylinder seam using ballpoint needle, gently pulling trapped fur tufts out of seams using a pin.
  4. Sew circular sherpa base to cylinder body.
  5. Assemble firm canvas lining cylinder and base.
  6. Slip sherpa outer inside canvas lining (right sides together), stitch rim, turn right-side out, push canvas inside sherpa outer.
  7. Topstitch around top rim, catching both layers while brushing fur downward away from needle path.

Tips and Variations

  • Tip: Cut sherpa fabric from backing side using a razor blade or small scissors tips to avoid trimming fur pile flat along edges.
  • Variation: Fold upper rim downward 3 inches to create a thick, plush shearling collar around top exterior of basket.
