What You Need
- 1/2 yard unbleached cotton duck canvas
- 3mm natural cotton macramé cord (approx. 50 yards)
- Medium-weight fusible interfacing
- Cotton webbing for handles (1.5 inches wide)
- Standard sewing supplies and measuring tape
How to Make It
- Cut two 18×15-inch canvas panels for exterior and two for lining. Interface exterior panels.
- Cut a length of macramé cord to measure the width of your front panel. Mount 16 to 20 doubled cords onto it using lark’s head knots.
- Knot two to three rows of square knots to form a macramé band pattern across the upper half of the front canvas panel.
- Sew macramé band horizontally across exterior front panel 2 inches below top edge.
- Stitch cotton webbing handles to top edges of front and back panels.
- Assemble exterior basket by sewing sides and bottom, boxing bottom corners by 4 inches for depth. Repeat for lining.
- Join exterior and lining at top edge, turn right-side out, press, and topstitch.
Tips and Variations
- Tip: Comb through the bottom ends of the macramé cord with a fine-tooth comb and trim straight to create a lush fringe.
