What You Need
- 1/2 yard stretch or non-stretch velvet fabric
- 1/2 yard satin or silk lining fabric
- Heavy firm fusible interfacing
- Metallic gold leatherette or satin bias tape for trim
- Fine sewing needles (size 75/11 jersey/stretch needle if using stretch velvet)
How to Make It
- Cut exterior velvet rectangular strip (30 x 10 inches) and base circle (8 inches diameter). Cut lining matching pieces.
- Fuse heavy interfacing to the back of velvet strip.
- Mark vertical pleats every 1.5 inches along top and bottom edges of exterior strip. Fold and pin 1/2-inch pleats across entire panel, pressing gently with low heat and press cloth.
- Stitch across top and bottom edges of pleated panel to lock pleats in place.
- Stitch short ends of velvet strip together to form cylinder, then attach circular base panel.
- Assemble lining cylinder and attach to base circle.
- Join velvet exterior and satin lining along top rim, inserting metallic bias tape trim into rim seam. Turn right-side out and slip-stitch gap.
