14. Industrial Brass Pipe & Leather Strap Valet Stand

What This Idea Means

Designed for dressers or vanity tables, this freestanding industrial-chic stand features a dark-stained solid wood base supporting an inverted L-shaped brass pipe arm fitted with a stitched leather organizer tray at the base for rings and watches.

How to Make It

  1. Prepare Wood Base: Cut a 6×10 inch block of 1.5-inch thick hardwood (walnut or oak). Sand edges and seal with dark oil stain.
  2. Assemble Brass Arm: Connect an 18-inch vertical 1/2-inch brass pipe to a 6-inch horizontal brass pipe arm using a 90-degree brass elbow fitting.
  3. Mount Pipe to Base: Screw the bottom of the vertical pipe into a brass floor flange secured to the wooden base with brass screws.
  4. Construct Leather Tray: Form a shallow leather valet dish by riveting the four corners of a 5×5 inch piece of thick leather.
  5. Place Tray on Base: Glue or set the leather valet dish onto the wooden base next to the brass pipe flange.

Tips & Variations

  • Tip: Add a notch or brass end cap to the horizontal pipe arm to prevent necklaces from sliding off the edge.
  • Variation: Wrap section of the vertical brass pipe in cotton cord or leather wire for added tactile texture.
