3. Botanical Brass Ring & Leather Strap Hanging Display

What This Idea Means

Minimalist and modern, this hanging display uses large, polished brass rings suspended by genuine leather straps. Small brass S-hooks slide along the bottom curve of the rings, providing adjustable hooks for chains of varying lengths.

How to Make It

  1. Prepare Leather Straps: Cut two 12-inch strips of 1-inch wide vegetable-tanned leather.
  2. Form Suspension Loops: Fold each leather strap in half over an 8-inch to 10-inch brass hoop, creating a loop. Secure the fold using a brass double-cap rivet and a setter tool.
  3. Punch Wall Mounting Holes: Punch a clean hole near the top of both leather straps using a leather hole punch.
  4. Install Hanging Rod: Insert a polished brass or wooden bar through the top leather loops, mounting the bar to wall hooks.
  5. Add S-Hooks: Slide 8 to 12 mini brass S-hooks along the bottom arc of the brass hoop to hold individual necklaces.

Tips & Variations

  • Tip: Apply a drop of leather conditioner to the straps to soften them and darken their natural tan tone over time.
  • Variation: Hang three brass hoops of varying diameters vertically in a cascading tier using continuous leather cord.
