16. Upcycled Antique Drawer Front & Brass Knob Rack
What This Idea Means
Reclaiming discarded furniture elements, this project transforms an authentic antique dresser drawer front—complete with its original decorative molding and keyhole plate—into a charming wall-mounted jewelry organizer fitted with vintage drawer knobs.
How to Make It
- Source Drawer Front: Reclaim a vintage wooden drawer front featuring interesting moldings or carved panel detailing.
- Clean & Refinish: Clean old grime with wood soap. Sand lightly and apply a fresh coat of milk paint or clear furniture wax to highlight carved features.
- Mark Knob Layout: Space 5 to 7 vintage metal, glass, or porcelain drawer knobs evenly across the face of the drawer panel.
- Drill & Mount Knobs: Drill holes through marked points and secure the knobs from the back using matching bolts and washers.
- Mount to Wall: Install two heavy-duty french cleats on the rear face for secure wall installation that sits flat against your drywall.
Tips & Variations
- Tip: Mix different mismatched antique glass knobs (clear crystal, cobalt, milk glass) to give the holder a whimsical thrifted collection vibe.
- Variation: Keep the original metal drawer pull handles in the center for holding bracelets, adding individual knobs on either side for necklaces.
