18. Hanging Brass Geometric Diamond Prism Organizer

What This Idea Means

Inspired by Scandinavian himmeli mobiles, this 3D geometric diamond prism is constructed from hollow brass tubes threaded on wire. Its open geometric framework provides multiple outer bars to hang necklaces and earrings.

How to Make It

  1. Cut Brass Tubes: Using a mini tubing cutter, cut hollow 1/8-inch brass tubes into twelve 6-inch lengths and six 3-inch lengths.
  2. Thread Internal Wire: Thread a long piece of 20-gauge flexible brass wire through three 6-inch tubes, forming a triangle. Twist wire ends to lock.
  3. Build 3D Diamond: Continue threading wire through remaining tubes, building two pyramids joined at their bases to form a 3D octahedron (diamond) shape.
  4. Attach Center Drop Bar: Thread a central vertical brass rod down the middle of the diamond, fitted with small bottom hooks.
  5. Hang Prism: Attach a brass chain to the top vertex of the diamond prism and suspend it from a wall hook or ceiling bracket.

Tips & Variations

  • Tip: Use a mini tubing cutter rather than wire snips to avoid crushing or flattening the open ends of hollow brass tubes.
  • Variation: Spray paint the finished geometric prism in pastel colors (blush pink, mint green) for a fun contemporary look.
