Drawing inspiration from traditional Zellige tile motifs, this jar is fully wrapped in clay and hand-carved with intricate geometric lines before painting, creating a rich artisan centerpiece.
Materials Needed
- Square or round glass jar
- Air-dry clay
- Sculpting needle tool or craft knife
- Ruler or template stencil
- Deep navy blue or terracotta acrylic paint
- White wax or light grout paste
How to Make It
- Wrap the glass jar completely in a 3/16-inch layer of smooth air-dry clay.
- While the clay is leather-hard (semi-damp), trace geometric tile patterns using a straight edge and needle tool.
- Deepen the carved lines slightly to create defined channels.
- Let the jar cure completely for 24–36 hours.
- Paint the entire surface with a rich base color like deep navy or rich terracotta.
- Once dry, rub white wax or light craft paste into the carved lines, wiping excess off the surface to reveal sharp geometric highlights.

- Use flexible mandala stencils to gently press complex patterns into damp clay before carving.
