18. Wave Pattern Ribbed Clay Candle Jar
Idea Overview & What It Means
Dynamic wave lines carved or combed horizontally into clay create a calming, Scandinavian water-inspired motif. When used as a candle holder, internal light or ambient room light highlights the undulating curves.
Materials Needed
- Heat-resistant glass jar
- Air-dry clay
- Notched clay comb or cake decorating comb
- Warm off-white or soft grey acrylic paint
- Matte spray sealer
How to Make It
- Wrap the heat-resistant jar in a uniform 3/16-inch layer of air-dry clay.
- While clay is soft, place the jar on a lazy susan or rotating surface.
- Hold the notched comb against the bottom base of the jar and rotate the jar while slowly pulling the comb upward in a wavy motion.
- Continue around the vessel until continuous wave ridges encircle it.
- Allow to air-dry completely for 24–36 hours.
- Paint in warm minimalist shades like warm alabaster or soft stone grey.
- Protect with matte sealer.
Tips & Variations
- Pour custom soy candle wax directly into the finished jar once fully cured and sealed.
- Use vertical wavy comb strokes instead of horizontal ones for a tall, fluid appearance.
