12. Beaded Bohemian Rimmed Clay Storage Jar
Idea Overview & What It Means
Combining clay textures with wooden beads creates a tactile, earthy vessel. Small wooden beads are embedded directly into a top clay collar, forming a rustic ornamental crown around the jar rim.
Materials Needed
- Glass jar with wide neck
- Air-dry clay
- Small unfinished wooden beads (4mm–6mm)
- Craft glue
- Off-white, beige, or stone-texture paint
- Matte spray varnish
How to Make It
- Wrap the main body of the jar in a layer of textured clay or spackle paint.
- Form a thicker collar band of fresh air-dry clay around the neck/rim of the jar.
- Press wooden beads side-by-side in a tight row into the soft neck clay band.
- Ensure beads are set securely halfway into the clay.
- Allow the clay assembly to dry completely.
- Paint the lower body and clay collar in a chalky stone finish, leaving the wood beads exposed or lightly dry-brushed for a rustic multi-tone finish.
- Seal with spray varnish.
Tips & Variations
- String beads onto thin wire first before pressing into clay to keep alignment perfectly straight.
- Mix bead sizes (alternating large and small) for an ornate trim pattern.
