13. Rustic Stucco & Jute Twine Jar

Idea Overview & What It Means

By blending coarse joint compound with natural jute twine accents, this vessel captures farmhouse warmth. The heavy stucco texture provides contrast against the raw fiber details.

Materials Needed

  • Glass jar
  • Wall joint compound or plaster
  • Coarse craft sand
  • Natural jute twine
  • Off-white acrylic paint
  • Hot glue gun

How to Make It

  1. Wrap jute twine tightly around the bottom third and neck collar of the glass jar, securing with hot glue.
  2. Mix joint compound with craft sand until a thick stucco paste forms.
  3. Apply the stucco paste generously over the middle exposed glass section between the twine wraps.
  4. Dab with a stiff bristle brush to create heavy, organic stucco peaks.
  5. Allow to dry thoroughly.
  6. Paint the stucco section with off-white paint, leaving the jute twine natural.
  7. Lightly dry-brush white paint onto the jute twine to soften its color tone.

Tips & Variations

  • Add a small wooden tag tied with twine around the neck for functional kitchen storage labeling.
  • Use dark brown twine with a warm beige stucco tone for richer contrast.
