8. Terrazzo Flecked Polymer Clay Jar
Idea Overview & What It Means
Terrazzo remains a beloved modern texture. By mixing small, colorful chips of pre-baked polymer clay into a neutral polymer base, you can wrap a jar in a custom speckled stone coat that feels smooth and durable.
Materials Needed
- Glass jar
- Neutral (white/beige) oven-bake polymer clay
- Small scraps of colored polymer clay (black, rust, mustard, sage)
- Clay roller
- Baking sheet & oven
How to Make It
- Chop small scraps of colored polymer clay into tiny, irregular specks.
- Roll out the neutral polymer clay into a smooth sheet.
- Scatter the colored specks over the sheet and roll firmly to embed them flush into the surface.
- Wrap the terrazzo sheet smoothly around the glass jar, trimming edges neatly at the seam.
- Bake the jar in an oven according to polymer clay package directions (typically 275°F/135°C for 30 minutes).
- Let cool, then sand the surface with wet sandpaper (400–800 grit) for a silky smooth terrazzo finish.
Tips & Variations
- Use metallic clay scraps (gold or copper) alongside earth tones for sophisticated sparkle.
- Apply a satin varnish coat to give the terrazzo a polished marble look.
